Eternity Project v5

Read about me, what I do and what Eternity Project is.

Who am I?

I am Mikko Mensonen. A web programmer and designer, originating from Finland and currently living in Switzerland.

In the (several) past iterations of Eternity Project, I have usually described myself as "someone who has too many ideas and too little time to fulfill them all". This still applies to me, though, but isn't really all that accurate.

All these ideas I have are usually related to creating content for web. I started some years ago (can't really remember how many) with making html in notepad, then later found Macromedia Flash and after getting a temporary job at a web-designing agency, learned the depths of css, dhtml, php and other languages for making a part of the web look like I wanted it to look.

As I stated above, my job at the web-designing agency was temporary. This was because
a) I like working as a freelancer and
b) this hobby of mine was never meant to be a career.

The latter, though, is already outdated.
Even though I never meant my hobby to become a career, it very soon will be my daily source of income. In August 2005 I will start studying at SBW Neue Medien, a swiss school that prepares for the occupation of the future (Internet, in other words). So it looks like that programming and designing will be my career after all.

What do I do?

I already mentioned above that I've been working in a web-designing agency and that I also work as a freelancer.
Working as a freelancer will be something that I will keep on doing as long as possible. And if You're interested in my services, check out the "web" section of this site to see what I can and contact me.

Here also a small list of my areas of expertice:

  • Server side scripting with php and MySQL
  • Creating web applications (eCommerce solutions, for instance)
  • Designing with standards: using css and xhtml to deliver the best quality possible
  • Dynamic and interactive content with combinations of Macromedia Flash and everything mentioned above

Eternity Project

The name states it all, actually. It's a small project that I started 5 years ago and then never actually finished.

What makes this project different from all the other unfinished creations of mine, is that Eternity Project is reborn about once a year. Up until now it has always been something I've created around a bunch of odd ideas and then discarded after few months of use, to wait for my next inspiration. For the fifth version, though, I decided to make it a flexible, easy-to-update and more durable than the previous versions. Before I had always used EP as an example of my capabilites. This time I have decided to make it a simple container for other work of mine and let them do the talking.
